My research interests are in contemporary political theory and my current work focuses on the political theory of activism. Activism consists of efforts to intervene in and shape society in order to realize (what the activist takes to be) just outcomes. Consensus is hard to come by in modern social and political life, but, with the exception of quietists and nihilists, almost everyone agrees that activism is crucial. In my book project, I address the question of how activism should be practiced, which leads me to explore topics including the grounds of civil society and dynamics of social norms, the relationship between political authority and activism, and the dilemmas faced by activists who choose to use the official channels made available by unjust regimes.
